Meet Dr. John Huang

  • Bachelors of Science degree in Physiology from McGill University in Canada.

  • Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine.

  • Graduated with Magna Cum Laude honors

  • Induction to Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society by faculty consensus based on scholarship and charcter. 

  • Advanced Orthodontics Residency Program at Harvard School of Dental Medicine.

  • Awarded the George R. Cadman Award for Excellence in Orthodontics by unanimous faculty committe vote. 

  • 2nd Doctorate Degree: Doctor of Medical Sciences in Oral Biology

  • Thesis focused on mineralized tissue development conducted in the Department of Orthopedic Research at the Boston Children’s Hospital

  • Awarded the James Shaw Award for Excellence in Biomedical Research by Harvard University.

As an orthodontist, Dr. Huang strives to provide the highest quality orthodontic care. His extensive background in understanding biology of tooth movement, biomechanics, and growth development enables him to tailor a specific treatment plan that is ideal for each individual case. This is important for services ranging from interceptive treatment for children to comprehensive care for adolescents to multidisciplinary cases for adults.

 

In his spare time, Dr. Huang enjoys spending time with his wife and 2 young sons Kevin and Alex. Interests include hiking the outdoors, skiing, photography, computers, and traveling.

 

Dr. Huang graduated from McGill University in Canada with a Bachelors of Science degree in Physiology. He received his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, graduating with Magna Cum Laude honors and inducted to the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society by faculty consensus based on scholarship and character.

 

Dr. Huang completed his advanced orthodontic residency program at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, and his clinical proficiency was recognized with the George R. Cadman Award for Excellence in Orthodontics by unanimous faculty committee vote.

 

Always in search of higher education, Dr. Huang elected to pursue his second doctorate degree, earning a Doctor of Medical Sciences in Oral Biology degree. His thesis focused on mineralized tissue development conducted in the Department of Orthopedic Research at the Boston Children’s Hospital. Dr. Huang’s findings was awarded theJames Shaw Award for Excellence in Biomedical Research by Harvard University.

 

Dr. Huang taught in the Harvard Orthodontics Program before being recruited by University of California San Francisco Division of Orthodontics where he was faculty from 2000-2012. Highlights of his tenure at UCSF include the Hatton Award from the International Association for Dental Research, the highest research award bestowed to post-doctoral fellows, Vice-Chair position, Chair of the UCSF Orthodontics Admissions Committee, and Faculty of the Year Award in 2012. Dr. Huang still actively pursues academic research in 3-D x-ray imaging.
